California Bill Fails; Study Of Hydraulic Fracturing Effects Not Expanded

Mealey's (June 16, 2015, 3:27 PM EDT) -- SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Senate on May 29, 2014, failed to pass legislation that would have expanded the scope of independent scientific study to evaluate the risks and impacts of well stimulation techniques and related activities with regard to hydraulic fracturing in the state.

The legislation, SB 1132, failed initially by an 18-16 vote, with six abstentions, on May 28.
