Judge Finds No Privacy Violations In Gas Station’s Collection Of ZIP Codes

Mealey's (June 26, 2015, 1:38 PM EDT) -- BOSTON — Because a gas station’s collection of customers’ ZIP codes in conjunction with credit card pay-at-the-pump transactions did not include the retaining of that information, a Massachusetts federal judge on June 12 found no violation of state consumer privacy laws and denied a plaintiff’s motion for an injunction to halt that practice (Carolyn Diviacchi v. Speedway LLC d/b/a Hess Retails Stores LLC, No. 1:15-cv-10655, D. Mass.; 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 76385).
