North Dakota Agencies Say Federal Officials’ Mineral Boundaries Are ‘Unlawful’

(November 9, 2020, 7:17 AM EST) -- BISMARCK, N.D. — Two North Dakota state agencies on Oct. 9 sued the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and certain officials in federal court in North Dakota seeking to have the court declare unlawful and void the defendants’ decisions concerning the accurate location of the boundary between the bed of the Missouri River and tracts of land riparian to the river owned by the federal government.  The plaintiffs maintain that access to oil and gas mineral rights are at stake (North Dakota Board of University and School Lands, et al. v.
