HP, PTO Ask Supreme Court Not To Consider AIA Patent Challenge

(July 15, 2016, 9:52 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hewlett-Packard Co. and The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filed separate briefs on June 30, arguing that the U.S. Supreme Court should not consider whether inter partes reviews (IPR) of patents under the America Invents Act are constitutional, saying the process is based on long-settled legal precedent (MCM Portfolio LLC v. Hewlett-Packard Co. and Michelle K. Lee, Director, U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, No. 15-1330, U.S. Sup.).
