Former Tribal Members’ 9th Circuit Challenge To Their Disenrollment Fails
Mealey's (July 13, 2016, 3:05 PM EDT) -- SAN FRANCISCO — The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) properly found that under tribal law, it had no authority to intervene in a tribal membership dispute in which more than 150 people were disenrolled from the Pala Band of Mission Indians in California, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals held July 8 (Tiffany L. Aguayo, et al. v. Sally Jewell, et al., No. 14-56909, 9th Cir.; 2016 U.S. App. LEXIS 12587).
