DOJ Says DEA Registration Required For Growing Industrial Hemp

Mealey's (June 24, 2015, 9:59 AM EDT) -- SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — In a June 4 letter, the U.S. Department of Justice affirmed that the cultivation of industrial hemp on the Pine Ridge Reservation without a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration would not fall within an exception created by The Agricultural Act of 2014 (Farm Bill) despite being authorized by tribal law. As a result, the DOJ said it was not prepared to extinguish or lift an injunction requiring a tribal member growing hemp on the reservation to abide by federal law and obtain a registration....
