North Dakota Officials: 1,000 Barrels Of Water Brine From Fracking Leaked

Mealey's (June 18, 2015, 4:52 PM EDT) -- BISMARK, N.D. — The North Dakota Department of Health (DOH) reported Oct. 9, 2014, that 1,000 barrels of water brine used in hydraulic fracturing operations leaked out of a corroded pipe at a well site owned by Oasis Petroleum Inc.

The leak occurred 11 miles northwest of Arnegard, N.D., the DOH said.

The DOH contended that much of the brine water was contained on the well pad, however, an unknown amount spilled onto adjacent land and into a stream in the area....
