Pennsylvania Agency Lists 243 Properties Contaminated From Fracking Operations

Mealey's (June 18, 2015, 3:55 PM EDT) -- HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on Aug. 28, 2014, issued a report indicating 243 properties in the state that have had water supplies contaminated as a result of hydraulic fracturing operations used in oil and gas exploration.

The oil and gas activities at issue include operations that use both conventional and unconventional drilling techniques that resulted in what the DEP calls “a water diminution event” or “an increase in constituents above background conditions.”
