Tribe’s Bid To Reclaim Land Barred By Previous Case, New York State Argues

(June 9, 2016, 9:17 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Supreme Court should deny certiorari for an Indian tribe’s petition seeking to reclaim thousands of acres of former tribal land in New York, just as it has done in several previous cases requesting review of the same issue after the high court rejected such claims in a 2005 opinion, the State of New York argues in its May 31 brief in opposition to the petition (Shinnecock Indian Nation v.
