Florida Decries Seminole Tribe’s Bid For Certiorari Over Utility Tax Ruling

(June 8, 2016, 4:02 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — An 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruling that Florida’s utility tax is directed at utility providers and not an Indian tribe does not need to be reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court because it does not conflict with any other circuit court decision and because even if it was in error, the state can easily revise the statute at issue to direct the tax at providers, Florida’s revenue chief said May 5 in response to a petition for writ of certiorari filed by the tribe (Seminole Tribe of Florida v.
