HHS Tightens Enrollment Rules, Loosens Co-Op Funding Restrictions In ACA

(May 9, 2016, 2:41 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The government on May 6 announced an interim final rule tightening Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) special enrollment periods (SEPs) and giving consumer-operated health plans more freedom to obtain funding.

Insurers claimed that individuals signing up during the SEPs were sicker than normal and were costing them money.

The SEPs allow people who moved into a new residence to change or enroll in ACA plans.
