FDA Revises Mifeprex Label, Lowers Dosage, Expands Time Frame For Use

(April 5, 2016, 7:42 AM EDT) -- SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration on March 30 revised the label for Mifeprex, a prescription abortion pill formerly known as RU-486.

The FDA changed the Mifeprex label to lower the day-one dose from 600 milligrams to 200 milligrams.

The agency also expanded the time frame for using Mifeprex from 49 days after a woman’s last menstrual period to 70 days.

The drug is used to induce medical abortions. Mifeprex is taken in combination with misoprostol. The two drugs induce a miscarriage....
