Tribal Official Dismissed From Suit; Indian Adoption Law Challenge Proceeds

Mealey's (March 1, 2016, 9:36 AM EST) -- MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota federal judge on Feb. 25 dismissed a tribal official from a couple’s suit challenging the constitutionality of adoption provisions in the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act (MIFPA), basing the dismissal on the official’s sovereign immunity and other grounds, but denied a dismissal bid by government officials (Jane and John Doe v. Emily Johnson Piper, et al., No. 15-2639, D. Minn.; 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 23469).
