Groups: Court Should Prevent Government From Acting On California Fracking Plan

(February 22, 2016, 2:43 PM EST) -- LOS ANGELES — Environmental groups that contend that hydraulic fracturing will further exacerbate the contamination of California's groundwater with toxins on Feb. 18 filed a brief in California federal court contending that it should be granted summary judgment against the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) requiring the agency to set aside its plan to open land in Bakersfield, Calif., to fracking. Furthermore, the groups argue that the BLM should be enjoined from authorizing or otherwise proceeding with oil and gas leasing (Center for Biological Diversity, et al. v.
