Appeals Board Renders Decision On Compensation Owed By Navajo To Hopi

Mealey's (June 17, 2015, 10:36 AM EDT) -- ARLINGTON, Va. — The U.S. Department of the Interior Board of Indian Appeals on April 29 affirmed in part and vacated in part a decision by the western regional director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) determining the compensation owed by the Navajo Nation to the Hopi Tribe for use by the nation’s members of the Hopi Partitioned Lands (HPL) in 1998 and 1999 for use by nation nonsigners of “accommodation agreements” for grazing and farmsites (Navajo Nation, et al. v.
