NHTSA Recalls Additional Takata Air Bags Following Fatal December Crash

(January 25, 2016, 2:07 PM EST) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Jan. 22 expanded its recall of Takata made air bags after finding that the rupture of an air bag caused a death after a December car crash in South Carolina.

NHTSA spokesperson Gordon Trowbridge said the fatal accident involved a 2006 Ford Ranger.


He said an investigation following the accident confirmed that the air bag ruptured. The crash is the ninth Takata-related fatality in the United States and the 10th globally.
