ICSID Rejects Venezuela's Bid To Remove Committee From Review Of $8.5B Oil Award

Mealey's (July 30, 2020, 12:58 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The chairman of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) Administrative Council on July 27 released a letter dated July 23 rejecting a proposal by attorneys for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to disqualify all three members of an annulment committee hearing Venezuela's challenge to an $8.5 billion award against it for a 2007 expropriation of oil investments as the chairman found that the proposal failed to establish that the committee members lacked independence or impartiality (ConocoPhillips Petrozuata B.V., et al. v.
