9th Circuit Affirms Reduced Social Security Benefits For Dual-Status Technician

(July 23, 2020, 1:31 PM EDT) -- PORTLAND, Ore. — The uniformed-services exception to the windfall elimination provision (WEP) of the Social Security Act is ambiguous as applied to dual-status technicians, a Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals panel found July 21.  But because the panel found that the Social Security commissioner's interpretation of the exception was reasonable, it affirmed the reduction of a dual-status technician's Social Security retirement benefits (Linda Jackie Larson v.
