Debt Collector Hit With Class Suit Over Service, Notice During Stay-At-Home Order

(June 25, 2020, 1:14 PM EDT) -- FLINT, Mich. — An immune-compromised Michigan resident filed a class complaint under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Michigan Regulation of Collection Practices Act (MRCPA) on June 22 in a Michigan federal court, accusing a debt collector of violating the state’s stay-at-home order issued in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic by serving him in person with a state court summons and complaint and failing to disclose that he had additional time due to the pandemic to respond to the complaint (Vince Nicolas Van Vleck, et al. v.
