Tribe’s Claim To Groundwater Rights Will Be Decided By Summary Judgment

Mealey's (June 17, 2015, 8:25 AM EDT) -- RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A California federal judge will rule by summary judgment whether the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians (the tribe) has rights to groundwater under its 31,396-acre reservation (Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians v. Coachella Valley Water District, et al., No. 13-882, C.D. Calif., Eastern Div.).

In May 2013, the tribe sued the Coachella Valley Water District, the Desert Water Agency and officials of both agencies in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
