New York Bar Association Referee:  Donziger’s Disbarment Would Be ‘Too Extreme’

(March 2, 2020, 7:42 AM EST) -- NEW YORK — A referee for the New York State Bar Association on Feb. 24 said that Steven R. Donziger, the attorney who won an $18.5 billion judgment against Chevron Corp. in a court in Ecuador for injuries only to have it reversed, should not be disbarred for alleged improprieties related to the litigation against Chevron because that would be “too extreme.”  The referee’s recommendation was filed in the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division (In re Stephen R. Donziger, No. 2018.7008, N.Y. Sup., App. Div., 1st Dept.)....
