1st Circuit Upholds Finding That Land-Trust Deal For Tribe’s Casino Not Allowed

Mealey's (February 28, 2020, 1:53 PM EST) -- BOSTON — The First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on Feb. 27 affirmed that the federal government does not have the authority under the Indian Reorganization Act (IRA) to take land into trust so a Massachusetts Indian tribe can build a casino based on “the plain meaning of the IRA’s text” (David Littlefield, et al. v.
