Judge Finds Claims Against Cigarette Makers Were Barred By Res Judicata
(December 15, 2015, 12:14 PM EST) -- TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida federal judge on Nov. 16 granted a motion to dismiss filed by tobacco product makers, finding that a purchaser's claims that they targeted the African-American community with their cigarette advertising campaigns and misled the public about the dangers of smoking were barred by the doctrine of res judicata (Franklin Lee Bradley v. R.J. Reynolds, Inc., et al., No. 8:15-cv-2196, M.D. Fla.; 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 165650).
