Pennsylvania Jury Awards $1.7M In 1st Post-Tooey Asbestos Trial Against Employer

(December 1, 2015, 11:44 AM EST) -- PHILADELPHIA — A Pennsylvania jury on Nov. 10 awarded $1.7 million to a deceased factory worker and his widow, holding his employer, ESAB Group, liable for the man’s mesothelioma. It is believed to be the first such verdict since the state’s Supreme Court allowed tort actions against employers (John Busbey, et al. v. Yarway Corp., et al., No. 120503046, Pa. Comm. Pls., Philadelphia Co.).
