$8.5M Western Union TCPA Settlement Approved; Attorney Fees Slashed

(September 20, 2018, 11:53 AM EDT) -- CHICAGO — An Illinois federal judge on Aug. 31 granted final approval of an $8.5 million settlement by The Western Union Co. to end a class complaint alleging that it sent unwanted text messages; however, the judge slashed the requested attorney fees, opining that the “substantial reduction is warranted in light of the uniquely distressing circumstances of this case,” and redistributed the funds to the class (Jason Douglas, et al. v.
