Interior Secretary Releases $800,000 Under Blackfeet Water Rights Settlement

Mealey's (March 13, 2018, 10:53 AM EDT) -- BROWNING, Mont. — U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke on March 9 signed the first authorization of funds for the Blackfeet tribe’s expenditure plan under the Blackfeet Water Rights Settlement Act, according to a department press release.

The authorization transfers $800,000 to the Blackfeet Settlement Trust Fund.

According to the department, $230,000 will be used to establish a water compact implementation oversight committee, $250,000 will be used to hire staff, $120,000 will be used to hire an engineering consultant and $200,000 will be used procure legal services....
