Oregon Court Of Appeals: Fraternity Chapter Could Still Be Liable For Rape

(September 10, 2015, 12:38 PM EDT) -- PORTLAND, Ore. — Although agreeing with a lower court that the national Phi Kappa Psi (Phi Psi) Fraternity is not liable for a rape occurring at the fraternity’s Oregon State University (Beta) Chapter, the Oregon Court of Appeals on Sept. 2 reversed summary judgment findings that the Beta Chapter was not negligent (Cassandra Scheffel v. Oregon Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, et al., No. A152194, Ore. App.; 2015 Ore. App. LEXIS 1050).
