CBO: Deficit Lower, Premiums, Uninsureds’ Ranks Higher If Individual Mandate Nixed

(November 10, 2017, 12:30 PM EST) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — Repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) individual mandate in 2019 would reduce federal deficits by $338 billion between 2018 and 2027 compared to the most recent baseline estimates, almost immediately increase the ranks of the uninsured by 4 million people and likely cause premiums in nongroup markets to increase by 10 percent per year, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said in an updated cost estimate released late Nov. 8....
