Judge: Michigan Tribal Members Lack Standing To Halt Land Sale
Mealey's (September 1, 2015, 11:05 AM EDT) -- KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Michigan federal judge on Aug. 28 ruled that he does not have subject matter jurisdiction to decide whether five tribal members can stop the state from selling land within an Indian treaty area to a mining company because the tribe members do not have standing to pursue their claims (Philip C. Bellfy, et al. v. Keith Creagh, No. 1:15-cv-282, W.D. Mich.; 2015 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 114342).
