Art Gallery Operator To U.S. High Court: Copyright Fees Award Is Preempted

Mealey's (August 24, 2015, 10:13 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — The operator of an art gallery argues in an Aug. 11 petition filed with the U.S. Supreme Court that an award of attorney fees for copyright infringement is preempted because the copyright owner failed to register the claim to copyright within the time limits set by Congress (Editions Limited West, Inc. v. Victoria Ryan, No. 15-201, U.S. Sup.).
