Tribe Petitions Top Court To Review Retroactive Dismissal Of Termination Claims

(December 8, 2016, 10:41 AM EST) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals decision affirming the 33-year retroactive dismissal of a California Indian tribe’s attempt to restore its federal recognition should be vacated because the ruling robs the tribe of the “substantive procedural rights” that other tribes in the state received, the tribe says in a Nov. 3 petition asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review the decision (Nisenan Tribe of the Nevada City Rancheria, et al. v.
