U.S. Steel Agrees To Spend $4.9M To Resolve Emissions Suit

Mealey's (December 5, 2016, 7:42 AM EST) -- HAMMOND, Ind. — United States Steel Corp. (U.S. Steel) on Nov. 22 stated in a consent decree filed in Indiana federal court that it would pay a $2.2 million civil penalty, spend $1.9 million on seven environmental projects and spend $800,000 to remove contaminated transformers at two of its facilities to resolve a Clean Air Act lawsuit brought by the federal government, Indiana, Illinois and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (United States of America, et al. v.
