9th Circuit Blocks Arizona Ballot Collection Law Days Before Election

Mealey's (November 10, 2016, 2:35 PM EST) -- SAN FRANCISCO — An 11-member panel of the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals issued an injunction Nov. 4 to put a halt to an Arizona law that for the first time makes it a felony to collect absentee ballots from voters for delivery to a polling place, which a dissenting justice said places “significant burdens” on Native Americans, Hispanics and blacks (Leslie Feldman, et al. v. Arizona Secretary of State’s Office, et al., No. 16-16698, 9th Cir., 2016 U.S. App. LEXIS 19986).
