Patent Board Grants Apple, Microsoft Petition For Inter Partes Review

(November 8, 2016, 12:44 PM EST) -- ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A frequently litigated data transmission patent will be the subject of an upcoming inter partes review, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board revealed Nov. 3 (Apple Inc., et al. v. Evolved Wireless LLC, No. IPR2016-00981, PTAB).

According to the ruling, petitioners Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corp. will likely prevail on their assertion that claims 1-3, 6, 8-10 and 13 of U.S. patent No. 8,218,481 are unpatentable under 35 U.S. Code Sections 102(a) and 103(a).
