New York Appeals Panel: Ex-Franchisees Entitled To Unemployment Benefits
Mealey's (October 31, 2016, 9:04 AM EDT) -- ALBANY, N.Y. — A New York appellate panel on Oct. 27 upheld a state Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board ruling that a claimant is entitled to unemployment insurance benefits because the franchisor of his former cleaning service’s actions and franchise agreement created an employer-employee relationship (In the Matter of the Claim of Bertrand Baez, No. 520746, N.Y. Sup., App. Div., 3rd Dept.; 2016 N.Y. App. Div. LEXIS 6946).
