Judge Properly Calculated Insurers’, Lender’s Losses, 5th Circuit Finds

(October 19, 2016, 2:32 PM EDT) -- NEW ORLEANS — A Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals panel on Oct. 5 affirmed a federal judge in Texas’ calculation of losses by insurance companies and lenders that were victim of a man’s stranger-owned life insurance policy (STOLI) scheme, ruling that the judge properly applied an 18-level enhancement to the base offense (United States of America v. Vincent Bazemore, No. 15-10805, 5th Cir.).
