Navajo Nation: Estoppel Ruling In Self-Determination Funding Dispute Was Error

(September 26, 2016, 3:36 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — A federal judge erred in finding that the Navajo Nation is estopped by its silence from seeking more than $15 million in federal self-determination funding for 2014 based on a delay by the Department of the Interior (DOI) in making a decision on the funding amount, the nation argues in a Sept. 16 opening brief in the D.C. Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals (Navajo Nation v. Department of the Interior, et al., No. 16-5117, D.C. Cir.).
