3 Federal Agencies Announce They Will Halt Dakota Pipeline Construction

(September 12, 2016, 12:34 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — Three federal agencies issued a joint statement on Sept. 9 in which they said they will cease construction activities on the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAP) based on the concerns raised by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Standing Rock) and other tribal nations. The federal judge presiding over the case had partially granted the tribe’s request for a temporary restraining order, which allowed some construction to continue in areas the tribes had opposed (Standing Rock Sioux Tribe v.
