1st Circuit: No Retaliation, Defamation Against Officer Who Lost Firearm License
(September 8, 2016, 7:09 AM EDT) -- BOSTON — A police officer who was terminated after his firearm license was revoked failed to show that his termination was caused by retaliation, violation of his right to free speech or defamation of his character, the First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled Aug. 31, affirming a trial court’s summary judgment ruling for the defendants (Joseph McGunigle v. City of Quincy, et al., No. 15-2224, 1st Cir.; 2016 U.S. App. LEXIS 16140).
