Mealey's (September 2, 2016, 11:13 AM EDT) -- DETROIT — One of the defendants named in a putative class action filed by residents of Flint, Mich., contending that various state officials are liable for injuries that have stemmed from exposure to lead-contaminated drinking water filed an answer to the amended complaint on Aug. 12, arguing that the plaintiffs have failed to state a claim, but that even if they hadn't, the claims would be barred by governmental immunity (Lawrence Washington, Jr., et al. v.
