Medicare Claims Denial Suit Granted Class Certification

(August 18, 2016, 11:10 AM EDT) -- NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A class of Medicare recipients suing the secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) alleging the existence of a secret policy for administering and denying claims was certified on Aug. 8 by a Connecticut federal judge who, in the same ruling, largely denied a dismissal motion filed by the secretary (Ruth Sherman, et al. v. Sylvia Mathews Burwell, Secretary of Health and Human Services, No. 15-1468, D. Conn.; 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 103897).
