Massachusetts Explores ‘Off-The-Shelf,’ Federal Option After Abandoning Exchange

Mealey's (June 18, 2015, 4:15 PM EDT) -- BOSTON — Massachusetts will abandon its Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance exchange and purchase an “off-the-shelf” exchange or default to the federal exchange, according to a May 5, 2014, press release.

Special Assistant to the Governor for Project Delivery Sarah Iselin said the “dual-track” strategy will ensure that the state will have a reliable and operable exchange for the next open enrollment period, which begins in November.
