Tobacco Companies Seek Supreme Court Review Of FAA Ruling In Maryland

(July 21, 2016, 10:50 AM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — A group of tobacco companies filed a petition for writ of certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court on June 22 seeking to certify two questions over the Federal Arbitration Act and whether a Maryland appellate court erred by invalidating a multi-hundred-million dollar arbitration settlement between the state and a group of tobacco companies stemming from the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between the states and tobacco companies (R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., et al v. The State of Maryland. No. 15-1537, U.S. Sup.).
