California Announces 13.2 Percent Rate Hike For ACA Premiums

(July 20, 2016, 2:49 PM EDT) -- SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Insurance premiums sold through the state’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace will rise 13.2 percent in 2017, Covered California announced July 19.

California managed to keep rate hikes at a 4 percent average increase over the last two years. The 4 percent average increase is among the lowest in the country since the passage of the ACA. Covered California said the 7 percent yearly average increase remains lower than the pre-ACA rate of increase.
