11th Circuit Affirms Tribal Chairman Must Comply With Summons

Mealey's (June 24, 2015, 10:45 AM EDT) -- ATLANTA — In an unpublished per curiam opinion, a panel of the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on June 1 held that enforcement of an Internal Revenue Service summons issued to the chairman of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida to determine whether the tribe complied with reporting and withholding requirements on the distribution of casino revenue does not implicate tribal sovereign immunity concerns (United States of America v. Chairman Colley Billie, No. 14-mc-20938, 11th Cir.).
