Federal Sanctions May Shut Down All Theranos Blood Testing For 2 Years

(July 13, 2016, 7:19 AM EDT) -- SAN FRANCISCO — The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on July 7 said it is revoking certification of a Theranos Inc. laboratory, proposing civil money penalties and cutting the company off from Medicare and Medicaid payments for its lab services.

In a detailed sanctions letter, CMS said it has determined that the Theranos lab in Newark, Calif., poses immediate jeopardy to health and that it fails to meet all Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of 1988 requirements....
