Blue Cross Minnesota Offering Only Narrow Network Plans In Minnesota In 2017

(June 29, 2016, 9:04 AM EDT) -- EDINA, Minn. — Blue Cross and Blue Shield Minnesota (BCBSM) will offer only narrow network plans in the individual marketplace starting in 2017, the company announced June 23.

BCBSM blamed the “volatile individual market, where costs and prices have bene escalating at unprecedented levels” for the move. BCBSM said it expects to lose $500 million in the individual market over three years.

The change affects approximately 103,000 Minnesota residents who purchased insurance on their own, through an agent, broker or on the MNsure marketplace. Currently about...
