EPA: Missouri County To Pay $3,000 Over Clean Water Act Violations

(June 1, 2016, 3:05 PM EDT) -- LENEXA, Kan. — Warren County, Mo., will pay $3,000 for violating the Clean Water Act (CWA) by discharging fill material into tributaries of the Massie Creek without a permit, a regional office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced May 17.

The EPA contends that the county’s disposal of fill that was part of a gravel-mining operation affected 2,595 linear feet of the waterway. The agency contends that the county was required to first obtain a permit under CWA Section 404 before discharging the fill material....
