Tribal Officers Federal Employees For Purpose Of Assault Charge, Judge Finds
Mealey's (May 17, 2016, 1:59 PM EDT) -- MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota federal judge on May 16 refused to dismiss a criminal indictment charging a man with assaulting a county policeman who was assisting federal officers after finding that officers of an Indian tribe involved in the incident are considered federal officers based on the tribe’s relationship with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) (United States of America v. Nodin Makwa, No. 16-cr-06, D. Minn.; 2016 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 64263).
