Federal Circuit Affirms Dismissal Of Indians’ Claims Over Oil, Gas Leases

Mealey's (April 29, 2016, 1:41 PM EDT) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. — A federal court correctly granted summary judgment to the United States on class claims filed by two Native Americans that the government mismanaged oil and gas leases on Indian allotment land because the claims are barred by a settlement in a prior action that released all such claims against the government, the Federal Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled April 27 (Ramona Two Shields, et al. v. United States, No. 15-5069, Fed. Cir.; 2016 U.S. App. LEXIS 7610).
